Southern Lights Tour: Bay Area

On Saturday, May 24, 2014, Lyrical Opposition proudly hosted the Southern Lights Tour: Bay Area at New Generation Covenant Church in San Francisco. The night was a powerful blend of artistry, faith, and community—bringing together nationally recognized southern hip-hop artists alongside Bay Area voices to shine light in the culture through music and spoken word.

What is Southern Lights?

The Southern Lights Tour was founded in 2014 by Alex Faith and Dre Murray, two standout emcees from the Collision Records collective. The concert brand was built to showcase not only their own artistry but also to uplift a wide range of local and national talent wherever the tour traveled.

Drawing inspiration from Matthew 5:14-16, the mission of the tour was clear: to be “the light of the world.” Through raw honesty, lyrical depth, and authentic storytelling, Southern Lights sought to redefine what people consider “southern hip-hop” while offering hope to communities across the country.

The Bay Area stop featured southern pioneers alongside homegrown Lyrical Opposition artists and collaborators, creating a truly unified and unforgettable night.

Performances

The stage featured a dynamic mix of hip-hop, spoken word, and lyrical improvisation:

  • Alex Faith (WLAK) – delivering his Atlanta-bred, blue-collar authenticity.

  • Dre Murray (WLAK) – bringing Houston grit and hope-infused storytelling.

  • Son the Gifted / O.D. / Alfluent – representing Lyrical Opposition and GFAM.

  • Sarah Wallick, Bailey Fan & Improv Jav – blessing the crowd with spoken word pieces.

  • Mission of RPSMG – showcasing Bay Area talent with sharp rhymes and heartfelt conviction.

Each artist brought their own voice and vision, yet together they reflected the same purpose: using music and words as light in a darkened world.
