Induction Day: Fego Navarro
On Sunday, November 19, 2017, at UNDIVIDED X in San Francisco’s South of Market at City Life SF, Lyrical Opposition celebrated a defining moment in its journey: the induction of Fego Navarro as an official member of the collective.
The ceremony, known as Induction Day (or “Chaining Day”), carried deep cultural meaning. Drawing inspiration from Kanye West’s Through the Wire music video—where Roc-A-Fella welcomed him into their crew—LO reimagined that moment for its own community. On stage, Samuelu Veu placed the Lyrical Opposition pendant around Fego’s neck, marking his formal welcome into the family. The pendant symbolized more than membership—it stood for commitment, accountability, and carrying the movement forward.
This ritual was also rooted in a lineage of hip-hop and community traditions. Beatrock Music first inspired LO with their induction of producer 6Fingers using handcrafted wooden pendants—a gesture that embodied authenticity and legacy. Lyrical Opposition carried that energy into its own practice, ensuring every induction paid homage to those who paved the way.
The spirit of Zulu Nation’s All Tribes and the empowering educational movement of Rock the School Bells also shaped this ceremony. Both set the foundation for using hip-hop culture as a tool for unity, knowledge, and transformation. LO’s Induction Day honored those legacies, embedding its own story within a larger tradition of hip-hop community building.
The atmosphere at UNDIVIDED X was electric—family, friends, and artists gathered not just to witness a performance, but to celebrate a passage. For Fego Navarro, receiving the Lyrical Opposition pendant was both an initiation and an affirmation: he was stepping into a lineage bigger than himself. For LO, the moment reaffirmed that every new member strengthens the collective’s voice, carrying forward a legacy rooted in culture, justice, and lyrical expression.
