Featured on KRON4’s Live in the Bay

SAN FRANCISCO — October 20, 2025

Bay Area creative arts nonprofit Lyrical Opposition was recently featured on Live in the Bay on KRON4, spotlighting its mission to amplify underrepresented voices through music, poetry, film, and other creative forms.

During the segment, host Jessica Wills interviewed film director Fego Navarro and actor Giovanni Arriola about the organization’s latest film project, Deville, and reflected on Lyrical Opposition’s 10-year history of nurturing artistic and social impact across the Bay Area

Deville is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set in early 2000s San Francisco. The film follows two teenage friends, Mikey and Alvin, as they navigate inner-city life — balancing friendship, romance, and challenges involving gangs and law enforcement. Through humor and heartfelt storytelling, Deville explores themes of identity, ambition, and the consequences of youthful choices.

Fego Navarro and Giovanni Arriola shared how the film draws from real community experiences, embodying Lyrical Opposition’s mission of using art to inspire dialogue and understanding.

While on set, Fego Navarro and Giovanni Arriola met Shaun Tai, founder and executive director of Bridgegood, and his team — who were also featured on the same Live in the Bay episode. The two Bay Area organizations connected over their shared commitment to empowering underrepresented creatives and building equitable opportunities through the arts.

Founded in 2015, Lyrical Opposition has grown from a spoken-word collective into a multidisciplinary nonprofit that mentors artists, hosts live performances, and produces socially conscious works. Over the past decade, it has become a vital platform for community-driven creativity, using art as a catalyst for social change.

As Lyrical Opposition celebrates its 10-year anniversary, the organization continues to expand its impact through projects like Deville, community storytelling events, and collaborations with like-minded groups such as Bridgegood.
